Deadly Maze (called "A Deadly Game of Maze" in the docs) is a one-on-one maze deathmatch game where the goal is to kill your opponent. Ordinarily this would work by using a modem to dial into your friend's computer (also running Deadly Maze) to battle against them. However if you press F9 once in the maze you can battle an AI opponent. You just run around the maze and shoot your opponent when you see them. You can also run away and regain some energy.Deadly Maze is a DOS-based action-adventure game released in the early 90s. It was developed by Larsen Software and follows a typical maze and puzzle-solving gameplay style that was popular in the early 90s. It blends elements of action, strategy, and exploration, offering a challenging experience that involves navigating a series of dangerous mazes while solving puzzles and avoiding various traps or enemies. Maze Navigation: Top-Down View: The game uses a top-down view of the maze, where the player controls the protagonist's movement through corridors and rooms. Movement: Players can move up, down, left, or right, exploring the maze’s interconnected pathways. The game might have a limited view, requiring players to memorize the layout or find maps as they progress. 2. Puzzles and Traps: Puzzle Elements: The maze isn’t just about moving from one end to the other. Players must solve various puzzles to unlock doors, disarm traps, or obtain key items necessary for advancing. Traps: There are various deadly traps in the maze, such as spike pits, falling walls, and pressure plates. The player needs to either avoid them or find a way to disarm them to proceed safely. 3. Enemies: Hostile Creatures: The maze may be inhabited by enemies or monsters, each with different behavior patterns. The player must either avoid these enemies or find ways to defeat them (using weapons or traps). Combat: If combat is part of the game, it may be simple action-based, with the player needing to time attacks and evades to survive the encounter. 4. Exploration and Item Collection: Item Collection: As players explore the maze, they can collect items like keys, health potions, bombs, or special tools that are necessary to solve puzzles or defend against enemies. Key Items: Some items are essential for progressing in the maze, such as a key to unlock doors, shields for protection, or weapons to defeat monsters. 5. Time and Difficulty: Time Pressure: Some versions of the game might have a time limit, adding urgency to finding an escape or solving puzzles. Increasing Difficulty: The maze's complexity grows as the player progresses. New levels may introduce more dangerous traps, stronger enemies, or complex puzzles that require more critical thinking to solve.
